Python Lab

The Python Lab is back! Python guru, Burt McAlpine, will be available to assist you with your Python questions. There will not be a formal agenda – you can pop in at any time. Bring data and/or code and you can work on real usable python solutions with Burt. Python Help Hours will be from 8:30 AM – 11:40 AM on Monday & Tuesday in the Fon Du Lac D room.

Arcade Lab

*New this year!* We are excited to introduce the Arcade Lab to the ILGISA Annual Conference! This lab will operate very similar to the Python Lab. There is no formal agenda. You can stop by at any time to meet with arcade expert Hunter Ray. Hunter will work with you to answer any arcade questions or problems you may have. Arcade Help Hours will be from 8:30 AM – 11:40 AM on Monday & Tuesday in the Fon Du Lac D room.

About the Experts

Burt McAlpine

Burt is a GIS professional with 20+ years of expertise ins GIS, GPS, CAD, and programming.  He is a triple B.S. major from Arkansas Tech University.  He currently works for JULIE Inc (the call before you dig for IL). Previously he worked in private environmental consulting. Burt has been doing python programming both GIS and Non-GIS applications and project for over 13 years.  He started with the release of ArcGIS 10.0 and the announcement that VBA was going to no longer be supported. Burt is a GIS department of one at JULIE Inc.  He uses python everyday to help automate various task including: GIS, accounting, database reports, file management, and even daily backups.

Hunter Ray, GISP

Mr. Ray brings over 11 years of GIS experience to his role as Director of Technical Services at Cloudpoint Geospatial. He earned his Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020. Mr. Ray is instrumental in guiding Cloudpoint's clients through the implementation and troubleshooting of ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise. His expertise extends to data processing, where he oversees QC/QA across a diverse range of projects. He is also well-versed in web and mobile app design and development, along with the latest innovations in GIS automation. He is passionate about leveraging GIS to drive impactful outcomes and improve efficiency.
